Something About Something About Something

When I say something, I say it
Only because there is something
That needs to be said about it--
Because there really is 'something'

Simply call it philosophy
And everyone will understand
The baffling questions we simply
Try or try not to understand

But beware it is dangerous
Not because we may just betray
The 'being' of something and lose
Some things about something we say

But because there's so much to thing
We simply care to talk about
So we shouldn't make our own bending
Of boxing something from without

Something about something I say
Doesn't mean so much if it's not
Understood merely as a sway
Of my perspective you have not

why i write

Nietzsche wrote for few people, that is, for those who sympathize with his aim to re-value morality or moral thinking. I, on the other hand, am writing for even fewer people; I wanted those who know me personally to understand and accept my religious, if not philosophical, stance. I am a young Filipino student of philosophy and an atheist. I would like to show that there is something refreshing in an atheistic view. I do not presume a superior moral theory for that is a privilege of a professional philosopher. Filipino religious culture is much stronger in influence than what I stand for-- that is also one of the reasons for my humility. Atheism is a view that any supernatural being, especially God, does not exist. Without God one can still be good, one can still examine one's life and live a happy, good life. Again, moralizing is a difficult thing to think about; I do not want to define goodness in universal terms but simply in context. The virtue an atheist must first uphold is intellectual honesty-- that values and value-positing, to borrow Heidegger's term, are necessary considerations to be examined. I am a Filipino who proposes an overcoming of Filipino culture. In a sense, I am attempting a personal overcoming. But by overcoming, I do not mean debunking Filipino religious culture and relegating it to uselessness. To overcome is to go beyond, in principle and in action. To go beyond means to scrutinize, to analyze, to subject to revision, to think and act pragmatically. But if this seems naive and immature-- or even impossible, I would like to suppose that open-mindedness be enough. Those who know me, please try to open your minds to possibilities.

"I am Jesus the Atheist"

Someone asked for my name
And I said, "I'm Hesus;"
Then asked me again for
A nickname he could use
To call me from then on--
And that was all because
He believed the name is
Too sacred to misuse

"But that is just a name!
Are dunce or something?!
Like God or Lucifer,
It refers to something
Or someone, let's just say.
So stop assuming
Other things from that name;
It's idiotic thinking!"

Sadly, I just smiled
I didn't have time to explain
Because people like him
Has a fanatic brain.
That day I realized
That "Jesus" died in vain
Most believers know him
Only through my first name

Jesus the Atheist
That is me! That is me!
So please see the difference
And the cold irony.
But, of course, you can laugh,
You can even hate me,
But don't try to argue
Ad hominen-ly

I am an atheist
And a Christian I was
I no longer believe
And proclaim, "God bless us."
I'd rather live and die
And say, "God-less us!"

Amen, I say to you
God is nothing but us.
